With a new electric Ram pickup on the horizon, we’re unlikely to see powerful gasoline engines from Dodge’s Truck brand. However, Dodge still produces blazingly fast cars and trucks with its supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 engine.
In stock form they are powerful, but tuning them takes them to a different level of performance. Renowned tuner John Hennessey is already tuning the Dodge Ram TRX to over 1000 horsepower, so we know the potential of this platform.
Even with that much power, the Ram is no light vehicle. You need more than tons of horses to win a race. Race against an exotic sports car light as a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ will be a challenge even for a modified Ram TRX.
After all, Lamborghini’s Aventador SVJ press release shows incredible performance that the Ram will struggle to keep up with. In an unlikely match, YouTube channel Street Speed 717 races a modified Dodge Ram TRX against a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
Super truck vs super car
The Super Street 717 YouTube channel makes great automotive content, but this race is really something special. After all, how often do you see Twin Turbo trucks go up against rare exotic hypercars?
Tuner brand Dodge Ripatuned recently modified the Ram TRX in the video with a new Twin Turbo kit. What makes it special is that it retains the stock supercharger while adding two turbos. These modifications allow an increase of about 300 horsepower.
While the Ram TRX is significantly heavier than the Lamborghini (6,396 lbs versus 3,615 lbs), the Ram’s added horsepower helps it keep up with the SVJ. The Lamborghini is ultimately faster, but it’s impressive that this super truck can hold its own against a half-million-dollar supercar.
An endangered race of vehicles
As exciting as these two high-powered vehicles are, they will likely be the last of their kind. No one can deny that the market is moving towards electric-only vehicles.
As emissions and fuel economy standards continue to rise, these large displacement engines may soon be a thing of the past.
Even with the stark contrast between these two powerful machines, they have something in common. They can both act as swan songs for the internal combustion engine.
