2021 Festa dell’Architetto and winners of the Italian awards


During the 17th International Architecture Fair at La Biennale di Venezia, organized by the architect Hashim Sarkis, the Sala delle Colonne de Ca ‘Giustinian hosted the “Festa dell’Architetto 2021” and the Italian Conference of the orders of architects, town planners, landscapers and curators From November 3 to 5. In the beautiful and fragile lagoon city, emblematic of our link with the landscape that surrounds us and the undeniable need to meet the challenges of the climate emergency, we again spoke of the need in Italy for a “Architectural law“, the key theme of the Festa dell’Architetto 2021. The event ended on November 5 with the presentation of the” Architetto / a Italiano / a 2021“(Italian architect from 2021) and”Giovane Talento dell’Architettura italiana 2021”(Young Talent in Italian Architecture of 2021) prize. The Italian initiative is part of the New European Bauhaus, the cultural strategy adopted by Europe which, as stressed by Francesco Miceli, President of the Italian National Council of Architects, Town Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators, “aims to create spaces that are inclusive, accessible, environmentally sustainable and more generally of urban regeneration “.

The Architetto Festival 2021 jury, chaired by Throws Catherine Hopp de Snøhetta, selected the winners of the main prizes and honorable mentions from over 400 applicants.
Architetto Italiano 2021»And an honorable mention in the new construction category was awarded to Siconception, the firm of architects Franco Tagliabue and Ida Origgi, for their “Laboratori e Centro Socio Educativo “(Workshops and Socio-educational Center) in Erba (CO). The building designed for the Noivoiloro non-profit organization was financed through private fundraising with maximum savings in the use of materials. The jury noted how: “The low-tech and radical approach of the project opens up a difficult challenge that ifdesign solves in an exemplary way, always succeeding in using the” material “in a rational, intelligent and expressive way“.
The award winner for “Giovane Talento dell’Architettura italiana” is a25architetti, the studio founded by the brothers and the team of architects Francesco and Paolo Manzoni, to Rifugio del Gelso (The mulberry hut) in Montevecchia (LC): the reconversion of an old farmhouse carried out with “Expert use of traditional materials and techniques applied in a contemporary way“, As noted by the jury, which sees it as a framework”an example of valuing the landscape and the surrounding context“, a project that brings the visitor closer to the values ​​of rural life.

The jury also awarded three other honorable mentions:
in the “restoration and recovery” category: To MoDusArchitects, the firm of architects Matteo Scagnol and Sandy Attia, for the Accademia Cusanus in Bressanone (BZ), because their “cultured catering“returns a work by Othmar Barth to the community, showing respect for its original identity while giving it a new social function.
In the “interior fittings or works” category: To Guicciardini & Magni Architetti for the catering and the route of visitors to Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Pisa, a highly effective project which “ not only enhances the heritage on display, but also the architectural context of reception”.
In the “green spaces, infrastructure and landscape” category, To PBeB-Paolo Belloni Architetti, MBA and associates, the firm of architects Paolo Belloni and Mario Bonicelli, for the Regeneration of Piazza XXV Aprile in Gorla Minore (VA), a project that the jury qualifies as “ an inspiring response to the current challenges of public spaces and an encouraging and alternative example to common standards“.
